Vending Routes for Sale and how to buy them

The best way to expand your existing vending route or start a new one is to find vending routes for sale.

Most of the time you won’t find vending routes for sale in the newspaper, and if you do they are scams and way over priced.

You have to go out and look for a route. Next time you go out to favorite pizza spot or, bank or sandwich shop look at the vending machines there.

Is the vending machine in good shape? Is the candy stale and rotten?

8 out of 10 times it probably is. You know what I do is I get the number off of the vending machine and call the owner.

Most of the time the owner is tired with his or her route and they want out.

Never pay for what a vending machine is worth!

When you start looking to buy vending routes for sale in craigslist, ebay etc.

You will see this line typed a lot. Example. 20 vending machines for sale and their locations plus the candy in the machine.

8,000 dollars the machine and candy alone are worth 6500 dollars. Do not fall for this.

A vending machine is worth only what it is making a month. I don’t care if Joe blow paid 600 dollars a machine for the vending machines, that is his fault.

How do I determine the value of a vending route?

Lets use the example of above. Ok the route above has 20 vending machines and lets say they are each bringing in 20 dollars month after month.

Well that is 400 dollars a month. The experts say you should pay for a years worth of income on a vending route.

So 400 X 12 is 4800. That would be a fair payment for the route but do you really know if the route is making 400 dollars a month.

No you don’t. I would offer half of that 4800 and go from there.

Before you write that check!

Ok you are excited, you found a couple good vending routes for sale that seems to making money and just needs a little attention.

So you and previous owner decided on 3000. You get out that check book and write him a check for 3000 dollars.

Wrong! You are in business to succeed. You probably can’t expand your route fast writing 3000 dollar checks every time you find a good route, I know I couldn’t.

You need to have the route financed, and I am not talking about getting a loan at a bank. I am talking about having the seller finance the deal.

Give him twelve checks for 250 dollars. 250 x12 = 3000. This way you don’t have to come up with 3000 dollars and if the owner goes for it, you know that route will make at least the 250 a month to cover the checks you wrote.

If the owner doesn’t go for it, the route probably doesn’t make as much money as he or she claims or they really just might need the whole 3000 up front.

More often than not the owner knows that the route won’t make that much and you know that this is a bad deal.
